by Rockford Speedway
4/27/2010

Loves Park, IL- After a mid-race incident sent race leader Alex Papini to the back of the field last Saturday Night during Rockford Speedway's 63rd Season Opener, opinions have been stated and restated in regards to the split second on-track call made by officials. Some feel it was the right call, others think it was a horrible call, regardless the race resumed. An eventual black flag would end the young driver's night and hopes of collecting his first feature win. The 2008 Rookie of the Year will return to action this Saturday night to prove his critics wrong and thank his supporters.

"I lost my cool out there." stated Papini. "I know it should not have happened and I regret the actions I took after leaving the racing surface. I am a competitor, I want to win and unfortunately I didn't keep my emotions in check. The fans, my fellow racers and the officials deserve better than that and I look forward to returning to the track Saturday night." Amongst the penalties being handed down to Papini for his actions, he will start from the last starting spot in Saturday night's Late Model feature field. It will be a tough task to come from the back to the front. Papini is looking forward to the challenge.

"It is going to be exciting, the fans better get a seat early, they are going to get a show. I know a lot of them are against me, but just as many are cheering for me. My plan is to come to the front, I can run with the top three guys and I want to prove that. I may be the bad boy in some people's eyes, that's fine, when I pass the field clean they'll see that I'm the real deal." Papini says fans can expect a new attitude as well as a new look for his Late Model, but will not disclose those details until Saturday.

Racing action begins at 7:07pm this Saturday night, spectator gates open at 5pm. Adult General Admission tickets are $10, ages 6-11 are $5 with children 5 and under admitted free. Saturday is the first $uper $aver $pecial of the season, $30 buys two adult tickets, up to four kid admissions, four Pepsi fountain drinks and four hot dogs, fans must arrive by 6:30pm to take advantage of this offer.
